ABSTRACT
The aim of this study is to determine whether an unfavorable in the glucose homeostasis or in the serum lipid profile will occur when nitrendipine is given to non - diabetic obese, hypertensive patients. The study group consisted of 11 patients. Serum giucose insulin and C - peptide levels in the fasting state and during oral glucose tolerance test were determined before and after nitrendipine treatment. Cholesterol, triglyceride, HDL - LDL - VLDL cholesterol levels were also measured in the fasting state. Although nitrendipine treatment significantly lowered mean systolic and diastolic blood pressures, no significant alterations were found between these parameters before and after treatment. it is concluded that during nitrendipine treatment neither glucose nor lipid homeostasis are unfavorably altered in non diabetic obese, hypertensive patients.
